“Summerville's after-church smoke shack on North Main”
Bulldog BBQ sits on North Main Street in Summerville and runs on word of mouth rather than signage. The pitmaster smokes everything over hickory in a custom-built pit out back, keeps the menu tight, and prices plates at a level that has quietly disappeared from most of the Lowcountry. The Sunday after-church crowd is the tell: these are people who could eat anywhere and choose the shack with the good smoke. The baby back ribs are the reason to plan a trip. Glazed with a light tomato sauce and pulled from the bone with a clean tug, they land squarely between fall-apart and toothsome. Pulled pork comes out steady week to week, smoked chicken quarters carry real color, and the baked beans are cooked down long enough to matter. Sundays wind down early, so this is a lunch play, not a dinner one.
**Great barbecue without a brand, a budget, or a wait for a table.** The tomato-glazed baby backs pull clean from the bone, and the whole tight menu comes off a custom hickory pit that punches above the address.

Bulldog BBQ serves Lowcountry / South Carolina Style barbecue — South Carolina BBQ centers on whole hog cooking, with the state uniquely home to four distinct sauce traditions: mustard-based (Midlands), vinegar-pepper (Pee Dee), light tomato, and heavy tomato. Charleston's Lowcountry spin adds Gullah-Geechee influences.
Bulldog BBQ has been serving Charleston barbecue since 2015.
